Climbers and skiers planning to venture onto Mt. Baker for overnight or day use need to exercise extreme caution navigating the glacier and travelling in avalanche terrain. Very hazardous crevasses, icy slopes, waterfalls and moats are likely to be barely hidden under the surface of new snowfall for sometime. These objectives make travel and route finding on the glacier increasingly dangerous. Parties should be prepared for all previously existing bootpacks on the mountain to no longer be distinguishable, thus making glacier travel experience and good route finding skills crucial.
Climbers and skiers can continue to register for their trips at either the Sedro-Woolley or Glacier USFS Public Visitor Centers, where you can also acquire Blue-Bags free of charge for packing out all your human waste while on Mt. Baker.
From all of us here at the Mt. Baker Climbing Program, have a great fall and winter season, happy holidays and hope to see you back in 2013. Cheers!
